Cresta Del Mar, Casa "Buena Vista" - Cabo Corridor

Here is a photo montage of the progress on Casa "Buena Vista ", starting from raw land, and as permits are obtained and construction commences, through construction progress. Construction started February 26, 2007.

Raw land, scrub, the odd cactus. Will require significant landfill. Note tip of Arch peeking through vegetation.

The lot clearing begins. Ecology department inspected on Monday, approved clearance. Level lines marked. Clearing begun, with footing for rear lower floor wall commenced.

Note the bedrock. This footing for the wall will also serve as the primary mechansim to hold in the landfill that will build up the lot level in the front to slightly above street level. Next will come clearance of the rest of the lot, creation of the rebar skeleton support frame for the wall, and then pouring of the footing. Footing will be roughly 6 feet deep.

Rebar skeleton of ground-floor rear wall. That wall will serve as the retaining wall holding the landfill on the front section of the lot. Once complete, lot will be ready for fill, compression of platform, and outline of home. Lot will be cleared 3 feet in rear section to make level for private courtyard, with dirt relocated to lot front..

The wall is poured, curing, and dirt is being moved onto the lot. Plenty of concrete waiting for the next step.

Trenches dug for the foundations of the lower floor. Wall is rear wall of lower floor, and also retaining wall for landfill to bring upper floor to street level. Wall is 50 feet wide.

Foundation for lower floor poured, electric run and plumbing in, walls going up. Note rebar for concrete structural column support between block layers. Also note double block exterior wall.

Downstairs walls now mostly up, arched windows framed. Bedrooms feel large when standing in them, family room nicely proportioned. Spacious and nicely laid out.

5/18 - Water storage tank built. landfill at street level, upper floor foundation trenches cut, footers prepared.

6/17 - Street level floor and pool poured. Upper floor going up. Walls largely in place now.

July 4. The foam is ready for the roof pour, and the exterior is largely taking shape. The teja tile is in, the garage roof is poured, and within a few more days, after framing the roof with wood, the lid will go on the can. This home will feature a curved glass sliding door on the dining room, which can be seen in the second photo of this series.

7/10 - Time to put a roof on the sucka!

Plastering the inside downstairs has also commenced. Got to say the 14-foot ceilings are impressive.

7/15 - The roof is now poured.

7/23 - The entryway starting to take form. The concrete columns will eventually be Cantera. And a brick dome will grace the entry. The teja tile we buy by the container on the mainland is also waiting patiently for its turn.

Starting to look like a real house.

8/18 - Brick domes completed, plastering nearing completion, concrete supports gone, greatroom pocket door expanded.

9/03. Exterior stairway going in. Domes completed, inside and out. Caracol shower blocked in. Lower bathroom modified with wall knocked out for jacuzzi tub (change order). Plumbing and electric diverted.

9/22 - Some modifications requested by the client - glass block in the front facade to provide more light for the bathroom, windows in the dining area versus pocket door.

10/13 - Arches and colmns getting finished. Roof tile going on. Flooring going in. Delay in ordering carpentry due to kitchen reconfiguration now resolved.

11-9 The roof is largely on, flooring in, stone going on, and exterior flourishes being added.

Stay tuned for more photos as project develops.
